Brief work history
Marieke started with her own private practice in Johannesburg in a NHC health complex where she built up her patient base for three years, after which she decided to sell the practice and move to Cape Town. In Cape Town she found a position as the Chief dietitian in Pollsmoor Correctional centre where the range of work varied between clinical dietetics, foodservice management, training of foodservice staff and training of basic nutrition to inmates. She was a key player in the Health and Safety committee of the foodservice units and developed the Health and Safety documentation for the foodservice units and much more. The experience gained at Pollsmoor was life changing and led her to start her Masters studies in dietetics at UCT. Marieke has been lecturing as the Foodservice management lecturer since the start of 2013 and in 2018 she received a merit award at UCT for her teaching.
